The drivers used are also different with the Atlas employing a single full range 10mm dynamic driver whereas the Ara features 7 balanced armature drivers in tandem. To produce this incredible sound, Campfire used two higher-frequency balanced armatures to cover the treble frequencies; just one driver for the midrange; and four lower-frequency drivers to do the grunt work of creating a convincing bass. That means Final E, the foams or ‘Foam Earphone tips’, and black silicone tips. armature drivers and the acoustic chamber where the sound is mixed. If a maker gets the mix right, the listener will be rewarded with a sound that is nothing short of sublime. In the case of the Ara, they went instead for a hi-fidelity or more reference-type sound. The first thing I noticed was the sheer width and depth of the soundstage. Tonality wise, the Tia Trio has a smoother and richer character whereas the Ara leans towards neutral with a more elastic sound. That single BA for the mids replicates a lot of what they did with the Solaris SE single BA, a driver I did prefer to the one they used in the original Solaris. The Ara is without a doubt designed for the careful, focused listener. Though it doesn’t trace any conventional curve, the earphone carries an almost dead neutral tone throughout and is naturally voiced too. the Portland-based brand's most ambitious product yet.
